After two clashes with the police, leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have surrounded the Patiya police station in Chittagong. They have been stationed in front of the main gate of the Patiya police station since 9:30 am today, Wednesday. The leaders and activists claim that the police attacked them twice. They will continue the program until a fair trial is held in this incident.

Meanwhile, a section of the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement started blocking the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in front of the Patiya police station at 10:40 am today with the same demand. This has caused traffic jams on both sides of the highway.

At around 10:45 am, it was seen on the ground that the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have taken a position in front of the police station. They are raising various slogans against the police. In addition, a section of the leaders and activists have blocked the highway. They are sitting on the highway and raising slogans.

When asked on the mobile phone, Fatema Khanam, the spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement for Chittagong city, told Prothom Alo that she is also in the program. Initially, when the leaders and activists tried to take a position in front of the police station gate, the police stopped them. One of them was injured in the scuffle.

Earlier, on Tuesday, at 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm, there were two clashes between the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Patiya Police Station. Both sides claimed that 19 people were injured in the clashes.

According to eyewitnesses, police and protesting parties, a Chhatra League leader was arrested by the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in Patiya at around 9 pm. He was later brought to the Patiya Police Station premises. However, since there was no case against the Chhatra League leader, the police did not want to arrest him. Tensions arose between the police and the protesting leaders and activists over this. The protesters kept shouting various slogans at the police. At one stage, a clash broke out. When the situation became heated, the police took the Chhatra League leader into their custody.
